Parents: What would your teen be like now if you had let them binge-drink, do some hard drugs, and pass through *every day* as a shut-in for most of their childhood?

If you've let them live today's typical screen-based childhood (w/ algorithmic social media) you don't have to wonder—the answer is *the way they are now*!

The real question becomes: who would your child be if you'd let them grow up with a childhood that had been *mostly free* of those influences"

I keep seeing tiktoks talking about the issues people travelli to the US are having, and in the comments there are Australians who respond with some form of "Australia is now saying not to travel to the USA because it isn't safe"

..except that Australia isn't saying any such thing, and the US is still listed as green with the advisory "Exercise normal safety precautions".

So I've started asking these people commenting where they found that information, and they're all talking about news stories they've seen and heard in the media... so I asked more questions..

These people believe that the news media is run by the government.

I am not joking. I've had multiple people in the last week explaining to me that the news media is literally the government informing the population - not in a "we're reporting on this official statement given by the Australian government" way, but in a "this story is written by the government" way.

Media literacy is dead.

Shhh! Don' tell anybody, but we are in the process of a ground-up redesign of our website to make our film-based learning resources easier for everyone to find.

In the meantime, we're aware that it can be hard to find things on our site. We'd love to help you find what you need.

Take a look around our library yourself. If you'd like help finding anything by film length, student age, subject, theme, activity, or anything else, drop us a note on Mastodon or through the contact section of our site, and we'll do our best to find you the very thing.

Also, if you're using resources as a grandparent, parent or babysitter, or otherwise outside a formal learning environment, we'd love to hear what you're using and how it works for you. Drop us a note here in the Fediverse or contact us through our site. /5

Just a wee one to start us off this week. Don’t let the title of this recently acclaimed four-part miniseries mislead you: Adolescence isn’t just about the volatile mess of a teen’s mind, and its potentially ruinous consequences. It’s a snapshot of a sort of behaviour that can and does exist at any age—including among many adults who unfortunately shape large swaths of our world.
