I'm curious to hear what others are #SelfHosting! Here's my current setup:

Hardware & OS

Infrastructure & Networking

Security & Monitoring

Authentication & Identity Management

  • Authelia (Docker): Just set this up for two-factor authentication and single sign-on. Seems to be working well so far!
  • LLDAP (Docker): Lightweight LDAP server for managing authentication. Also seems to be working pretty well!
    #AuthenticationTools #IdentityManagement

Productivity & Personal Tools

Notifications & Development Workflow

  • Notifications via: #Ntfy (Docker) and Zoho's ZeptoMail (#Zoho)
  • Development Environment: Mostly using VSCode connected to my server via Remote-SSH extension. #VSCodeRemote

Accessibility Focus ♿🖥️

Accessibility heavily influences my choices—I use a screen reader full-time (#ScreenReader), so I prioritize services usable without sight (#InclusiveDesign#DigitalAccessibility). Always open to discussing accessibility experiences or recommendations!

I've also experimented with:

  • Ollama (#Ollama): Not enough RAM on my Pi.
  • Habit trackers like Beaver Habit Tracker (#HabitTracking): Accessibility issues made it unusable for me.

I don't really have a media collection, so no Plex or Jellyfin here (#MediaServer)—but I'm always open to suggestions! I've gotten a bit addicted to exploring new self-hosted services! 😄

What's your setup like? Any cool services you'd recommend I try?

@sehdorn #linkding is on the list of possible candidates ;) But it only works with Tags right? I'm looking for a hierarchical way to structure the bookmarks by folders. Yes, tags are possible and I'll use them, when nothing else is available.
What's your use case for #Wallabag? Archiving links in offline readable format?

What's the suggested solution to get a #selfhosted, easy to use #bookmark sync service? I'll need Chrome, Firefox, iOS Safari to get in sync wrt bookmarks. @wallabag looks nice but I don't want to have those saved pages for later offline stored. I just need to copy the existing bookmark manager structure (folder and links) into something selfhosted and easy to use. #hoarder looks promising but is running AI stuff but has the necessary app extensions. #linkding is quite simple, but only uses tags for management instead of folders. Any ideas or suggestions? #selfhosting

@TeensyTinyKobold Tell me about it, I just end up with a never-ending rabbit hole (or should I say, Russian doll) of folders scattered everywhere.

I need a file system organizer/application similar to how Immich (or Google Photos or iCloud Photos etc) organizes photos all in one place; tagged (ideally, automatically), structured, etc. I mean, so do my browser tabs but that's a whole other issue to solve.

As for bookmarks I've been loving the open-source #linkding. Then again I have close to 70,000 bookmarks :|

I've recommended #Linkding the other day as a #Pocket alternative. It was a one-to-one replacement on desktop... then I remembered that I used to save a bunch of links to Pocket from mobile too from time to time. In terms of browsing through your Linkding bookmarks, despite there being no mobile app (unlike Pocket), this was easy to do on #iOS by installing your Linkding instance as PWA. You could also do this on #Android, but only using #Chrome.

But adding links to the Linkding instance on mobile! I thought surely this is one omission I will have to live with... then I saw there was an official guide by them on how to achieve this, even without an app, by using
#Apple's super powerful Shortcuts and wow... it worked perfectly. From anywhere on my #iPhone, I can summon the iOS share sheet and on it there'll be an "Add to Linkding" option that'd do just that automatically. I'm genuinely shocked just how easy it is to essentially create a "context menu service" on an iPhone natively, without requiring being tech savvy. You could even export or share the Shortcut supplied by Linkding after you've configured the Linkding instance domain with your own.

There's a guide on achieving this on Android too, but the methods (they provided 2) are a lil different. One involves adding some
#Javascript code to a bookmark of your Linkding instance (again, using only Chrome) - using this method however, seems a lil janky and not that helpful since you seem to only be able to add bookmarks to your Linkding instance from Chrome and not elsewhere, and to do so you'll have to manually type bm into the address bar :blobfoxcat: The method I recommend is the second method on the documentation, which works a lot more like how it does on iOS, though you'll have to install a third-party app for it.

So, my browser's bookmarks are back to being the things I use frequently. But I just discovered linkding github.com/sissbruecker/linkdi which reimplements del.icio.us as a self hosted system! Now running on my NAS. Very nice.

New series of articles on the #BSDBOX in progress. Small preview:

#FreeBSD has a full-blown but very minimalistic virtualisation that is excellent for running other operating systems on FreeBSD. This series of articles is about the preparation and creation of virtual machines based on #BHYVE . The main focus is on #Docker containers, because this gives the Docker theme under FreeBSD a hook.
