Okay, question to my fellow mastodon-travellers, who are more savvy than me: Why do I constantly get posts from people I don't follow and hashtags I don't follow? And I DON''T get to see posts from a lot of people I actually follow?... (I get some posts from people I follow, but not at all everything). And then I get a ton of stuff that i cannot "unfollow" bcs I don't follow it in the first place... Beginning to be frustrating... Thanks for any help!

Hello, after a couple of weeks I'm still rather #newonmastodon. I have some questions: Is there an algorithm at all which I can "train", i.e. choose to follow some types of posts and un-choose others? It seems I can only "block" accounts with a post that I don't like. And I am not even sure it makes a difference in any structural (algorithmic) way if I do spend the extra time blocking. I'm unsure how to find the content I am looking for, and "un-find" the content I really don't want. Any advice?

one thing i didn't mention in my guide to getting started in the fediverse / mastodon is that people here are excellent at using the content warning (triangle symbol next to the post button) and alt text (describing images for people with vision impairment) funtions.
