Hurray... no more lithium !
But there's more. R&D most of the time it's about the small steps and a lot of sweat.
This seems to be the giant historical leap forward.

In the face of one of the world’s largest refugee crises, Chad is taking a bold and unexpected approach.
Instead of temporary shelters or short-term aid, the Chadian government is providing land, giving over 1 million refugees the opportunity to grow food, build livelihoods, and contribute to restoring degraded ecosystems.
This initiative isn’t just humanitarian, it’s ecological and economic.
Refugees are using water harvesting techniques to help regenerate drylands, contribute to the Great Green Wall of Africa, and transform barren landscapes into productive farms.
Could this be a new model for global refugee response?

Irvin Rivero is the E-Mobility Associate at Acterra, whose work is engaging and educating local community members about the benefits of electric vehicles to accelerate the use of clean energy, reduce carbon emissions, and lower air pollution caused by conventional combustion vehicles. Through multilingual Acterra events and workshops, Irivin educates community members about clean energy incentives and shares financial resources and opportunities offered by local government and energy providers to increase the adoption of electric vehicles. Upgrading appliances, buildings, and vehicles to those that operate on clean energy instead of fossil fuels is a meaningful way to invest in climate resilience and reduce emissions. Irvin shares, "At Acterra, we focus on local climate solutions. If we can change a community by reducing carbon emissions, it's part of the solution for the whole planet." When speaking about the "doom" we may feel about the climate crisis, something that helps Irvin feel more hopeful is the power of collective action to address climate change, which starts at the individual and community level before building momentum to deliver a much bigger impact."

"The San Francisco Bay Area – home to nine counties, more than 100 cities and towns, and over 7 million people – exemplifies climate leadership, environmental justice, and innovative renewable technologies. It is a model for how cities, residents, organizations, and businesses can work together to respond to the intensifying regional impacts of climate change, from heat waves and wildfires to flooding and rising sea levels. As a global hub of diversity, culture, and technology, the Bay Area has enormous economic, social, and political power to address climate change in ways that ripple across sectors and the world. The land known as the Bay Area is the ancestral, traditional, and contemporary Native homelands of the Muwekma Ohlone, Chochenyo, Karkin, Ramaytush, Yokuts, Miwok, Southern Pomo, Kashaya, Patwin, and Mishewal Wappo."

On of my guilty pleasures is watching reaction videos on YT.
Basking in the praise of my own society 😘 [I'm Dutch]
Being a bit cocky I also like to write my own reactions to the reaction.
And now I share on Mastodon, how's that for a Droste-effect 🔄 ?

---> What New York Could Learn From Amsterdam’s Streets <- [12:49 min]
---> youtube.com/watch?v=41WSPGunLOI <-

youtube.com/watch?v=Tu_VNhhk3A

6 Lessons for teacher Paul [UK]

1st lesson: don't tell NYers what to do... The lesson, proven time and time again: create it and they will come. Create safe and fast infrastructure all over town and the bikers will show up, and be happy. [Not cultural at all, more like car brain at the helm.}

2nd lesson: Amsterdam has a long time history of POLITICAL WILL on safety and opposed, so called, faster cars. Later on public health was added to that WILL: less emission [pollution] and less noise.

3rd lesson: take traffic design seriously. That means the theory has to be adapted to new things learned. In the US, as far as I know, traffic design often works with far outdated data. And the study is averse to that adaptation. I wonder why ? Car brain ?

4th lesson; at 8:12 you did get an useful idea about the car industry's history. Why don't YOU fact check that ! Giving others your own homework, or is that what teachers do ? 😋

5th lesson: there is no one key to fix it all. not even public transport. That's a common US problem: not being able to go slow but ALL IN. Always looking for the quick and easy fix !

6th lesson: the Dutch are not skinny ! They are healthy, eaten fresh food as well as cycling.

Conclusion: What ARE the good thing of NY traffic [the point of the video], huh ? Record deadths, pollution ? Hurray !

Living in the Netherlands this is normal for me [all be it exceptional].
I used to commute to work on bike. No drivers license. Owning 3 bikes. One for urban traffic, to the train station. One for leisure. And the last at the trainstation of my workplace.
Would that was possible for every one.
Remember: 'If you build it, they will come' As it goes for bicycles it also goes for cars.

Climate change is hitting cacao farms hard, leading to shortages in chocolate's raw ingredient. California Cultured is one of several firms aiming to mass-produce chocolate in vats using cell culture technology. Rooftop solar PV is THE best way to reduce your household energy bills (alongside good insulation of course!). For several weeks several states have been subjected to heavy floods.
But no one really talks about it. Granted Americans seem to have bigger problems. Like a President determined to ruin the country... the same president that destroyed the weather service, banned research on #ClimateChange and even scrubbed the word #Climate.
And all the while everyone keeps driving their big, oil guzzling trucks.
I don't care that they don't care about their own lives...
but as it goes they keep destroying the rest of the globe.

The rainy season has started in Guatemala, and so have the trash floods.
Interceptor 006, deployed since 2023 in the Rio Las Vacas, was there to catch this trash tsunami and prevent tons of waste from reaching the ocean with both its upstream and downstream barriers.
Where does this trash come from?
Due to waste management challenges, heavy rains wash vast quantities of plastic and other waste from Guatemala City and the surrounding area into the Rio Las Vacas, a tributary of the Rio Motagua, which flows into the Caribbean Sea.
Are Interceptors a replacement for waste management and infrastructure? No. Governments and many local organizations are already focused on improving solid waste management systems.
Our aim is to provide an alternative solution that complements the broad range of actions for the ultimate goal of having clean oceans.

This isn’t just unsustainable - it’s reckless, poorly regulated, and unfolding right now."

For us, things are instant, we switch the stove on or turn on a tap and it’s available.
But that’s not the case for everyone.
Women in Manar spent nearly 6–8 hours on average, per day, thrice a week collecting water and firewood. They would walk back home with heavy loads on their heads. This is an average of 800 hours annually just collecting firewood. But as the forests started to whither away, the journey became long and tiresome.
But in a small corner of Champawat district of Uttarakhand, a group of women have led a silent revolution.
Watch the latest documentary to witness how the Van Sahelis of Manar Van Panchayat restored 11.6 hectares of degraded forest land. Bringing groundwater and greenery back to their land, saving the forest as well as something invaluable, time."
