Mom's chimes singing a song in the storm.... exactly where she would be sitting right now. A fitting night for the eve of her funeral.

Hug your family. Have conversations about the what-ifs. You don't know when the worst case scenario is going to start knocking on your door. You don't know when it might all be over. I promise you this - when those times come your disagreements or politics will not matter.

Appealing for help maintaining disappeared.us

The sad fact is that detentions and deportations without due process are accelerating, and it is hard to keep tabs on documented cases.

If you are interested in bearing witness and can help find corroborating news sources for such cases, please let me know.

If you're technical, you can do issues and/or PRs at codeberg.org/reed/disappeared.

If you're not technical but can help identify and document cases, please, please, please reach out.

can't remember where I saw it but "Using AI in education is like using a forklift in the gym. The weights do not actually need to be moved from place to place. That is not the work. The work is what happens within you" is a solid quote

Thank you to everybody who sent me the news stories and posts about the hacked crosswalk buttons in Silicon Valley and Seattle. Maybe we'll see them elsewhere, too, soon? I'm betting there may be other cities whose DOT chose weak passwords for systems like this.

If you haven't heard what's up, I did a super short video about this...

BlueSky isn’t just censoring posts in Turkey to match government demands, already happening in other countries too.

I really wish the media would stop calling it decentralised. It isn’t. It’s like calling Shell oil nature lovers, because they claim they love nature.

In case you missed it, Bluesky is apparently caving to an authoritarian government:

This is why the Fediverse is so important: each Fedi server is totally independent, servers communicate directly with each other, anyone can set up a server anywhere.

Bluesky posts all flow through Bluesky's own corporate relay which is impossible to bypass, making censorship easy.

Google is so sneaky. This prompt inside Gmail gives you three options. The two most visible options (number 1 is 'Try it now' and number 2 is 'Continue') basically mean 'Enable Gemini AI to write emails.' The third option cancels it which is hidden well. Google, you could do better than this. This is a perfect example of a dark pattern. For those who want AI to write basic emails can enable it but there is not need to do this kind of "shady" stuff.

Whistleblower reveals evidence on how Elon Musk's DOGE team extracted 10 GB of sensitive data about American citizens from a government agency, and then deleted accounts and logs to cover their tracks.

Then, when the whistleblower tried to report the data breach, he received a threatening letter containing pictures taken from a drone watching him walking his dog.

The duck nested in the school courtyard, so her and her hatchlings needed a proper send off since they can't fly away

😍

edit: thanks to @fliggerit for finding the story behind this scene

The duck does this every year- flies into a courtyard, lays her eggs, but the hatchlings can't fly out.

So there is now an annual ritual at the school where they clear the way for the escape.
