Anyone tried to do a 12-month cottage garden (in the UK) as in one with year-round interest? Any insights to share?
@TheDonsieLass Will be very interested to hear... the only interesting things I grow in the winter are rosemary, which flowers in late Jan for us, cobaea scandens (which is only perennial coz we're in #Jersey I think) and siberian dogwood, with its red stems which are lovely, but still look pretty bleak. So sorry no insights: definitely interested though!

You can cultivate lettuce the whole year long. There are sorts for spring and others for autumn sowing. Lettuce is hardy as long as you don't try to collect it in frozen state.
Claytonia perfoliata, commonly known as miner's lettuce, rooreh, Indian lettuce, or winter purslane can be harvested even when frozen. And surely cornsalad (valerianella) which is a bit tricky: It only wishes to grow where it has sown itself. Once got a plant from bought seeds, let it flower.
I leave brassicas to over winter too, and I understand parsnips are better for having had a proper cold spell. But I'mnot sure these fit the criteria of cottage garden
@JimmyB Ha, I was after ornamentals but I suppose most cottages would have made room for some veg!
