Another favourite image from my 30+ year photographic career. Continuing with UK landscape, here’s the greatest piece of landscape art in the country, Ribblehead viaduct in the Yorkshire Dales.
Whatever you think of Michael Portillo, he genuinely did play a pivotal role in saving the Settle—Carlisle line and probably therefore the viaduct too.

Video from the train ride through the Bernina Pass in early June 2024, with snow and ice still covering most of the peaks and the pass itself.
The most impressive parts are the Lago Bianco (frozen lake by the train track - in June!) and the famous Brusio spiral viaduct.

This is the Dandry Mire Viaduct on the Settle and Carlisle line in Cumbria, England. Finally completed in 1875 it's a marvel of Victorian engineering.

@realtegan I remember that. It didn't bother me _as_ much but I do remember waiting for that fucking thing to go Chomp Chomp and crush everything under it someday.
I paid a LOT of attention to the teardown and went down a couple of times to watch and collect some Viaduct Rocks to keep, too. (Apparently enough of us did that that they ended up collecting a bunch so people could pick up some at Sound Transit HQ. :D )

This method of getting trains up the steep incline out of Queen Street Station continued until 1908 when cable-hauling was finally replaced by banking engines. The Avon Viaduct still forms part of the mainline route between Glasgow and Edinburgh to this day, more than 160 years after it was first built.
The Avon Viaduct near Linlithgow. With over 20 arches and 404 metres in length, this viaduct was built in 1841 as part of Scotland's first intercity railway line connecting Haymarket Station in Edinburgh with Queen Street Station in Glasgow. A series of such viaducts, as well as embankments and tunnels, allowed the creation of an almost flat route between the two cities.

The #LandwasserViaduct in #Switzerland is part of the #WorldHeritage-listed #AlbulaRailway. The 136m long and 65m high instructure was constructed in 1901/02.
