Hotspur🏳️‍🌈🇺🇦
So we've all heard about the Calexit movement...they're collecting signatures to authorize a ballot initiative for California to secede from the US.

I've since learned that other secession movements are gathering steam. The Cascadia movement wants Washington and Oregon to join with CA and form a new nation. A New York/New Jersey movement is brewing, and there's a campaign for a Republic of New England, to incorporate MA, VT, NH, ME, CT, and RI.

Interestingly, the Texas secessionists, who raise their heads every so often, seem to be quiet. And there's likely others that I am unaware of.

A Balkanization of the US is scary, to be sure, but at the same time, many have predicted it for a while. A common thread is taxation...not that taxes are too high, but that these states, which are among those that pay the highest in taxes, get little in return, and some are angry over what they feel is subsidizing the rest of the country.

Is it coming? I'm not sure, but if the country continues to destabilize, it may be inevitable.

Cheery thoughts for a Tuesday morning...

#Politics #Secession #Balkanization #Cascadia #RepublicOfNewEngland #Scary

In the past the federal government returned a significant portion of what they receive to the states but if they stop doing that, why should the states send them anything to begin with? If the states have no say in anything, isn't that taxation without representation?

Of course Putin would be absolutely giddy if a true civil war broke out in the USA but if we are going to totally tear apart the government, sooner or later someone in a state government is going to figure out that they can tell the federal government to go to hell and get away with it. OR the feds will overreact and next thing you know it really will be a full civil war (actually more like Trump's forces being considered an occupying force). And you have to wonder how many members of the military would be loyal to Trump after what he has done lately. Of course anyone in the military could be replaced by a Trump stooge, but how many of those stooges would have any actual military experience?

I can't even begin to envision all the ways this could go bad. The US is only one month into Trump's pseudo-presidency (I sat that because it appears Musk is actually running the country while Trump plays golf and posts insane messages on social media) and already irreparable damage has been done. And no one outside the USA will ever come to their defense. In fact, if the USA ever declares war against #Canada all Canada would need to do is promise full citizenship to any American over 16 who does not have a criminal record, if they will come and serve in the Canadian armed forces (or in some type of support capacity for those unable to directly serve due to age or infirmity) for some period of time. I suspect many American citizens that do not want to live under a Trump dictatorship might just be more than willing to take them up on that offer, even if they could never return to the USA until a more sane administration regains control (if that ever happens).

Not that I want to see ANY of that happen, but Trump and Musk need to stop tearing through the US federal government like a damn pair of bulls in a china shop, and actually consider the possible unintended consequences of everything they are doing. But they will never do that because their egos are too inflated and they think they know everything, and Musk has the attitude that if he doesn't understand something, just break it and see what happens. 😟

#uspol #USPolitics
