Personal Time Tracking with Git
Ah, the pinnacle of productivity: a glorified kitchen timer with a rotary dial and e-paper screen, because turning a knob gives that authentic time-traveling 1950s flair.
Meanwhile, GitHub throws #AI and #automation buzzwords at us like confetti at a clown parade, as if building a Pomodoro timer requires a PhD in rocket science.

I've been procrastinating horribly ahead of a client meeting. I was going to work all evening on things, then all morning, then for at least two hours, then for a very focused one hour and then... They cancelled.
So I learn nothing! Yay!

Asking AI which todo app to use
I have been struggling again with task apps, I wanted something that:
I thought it would also be a good time to compare ChatGPT and Google Gemini
“what is a good to do app that allows me to change font size, see my calendar within it, allows me to add tasks without a due time, works across all platforms and allows me to add sub headings to my projects”
ChatGPT seems to be more confident in its recommendation of ticktick straight away but got information wrong. It compared todoist and ticktick but it favoured ticktick because it stated that Todoist doesn’t allow you to increase font size. This is wrong, so I told it.
“You’re right! In Todoist, you can change the font size by adjusting the system-wide text size on your device. On iOS, Android, Mac, and Windows, increasing the system font size will make Todoist text larger.”
It then said.
“However, Todoist still lacks true subheadings within projects (only workarounds like section titles or indents). If you need real subheadings, TickTick or Things 3 (Mac/iOS) might be better.”
Wrong again, todoist has subheadings.
So after telling it that it was wrong again.
“So, since Todoist already meets all your needs (font size, calendar view, no due time requirement, cross-platform, and subheadings), do you still want to explore alternatives, or are you happy sticking with it?”
It doesn’t meet my requirements, it doesn’t support Calendar integration for me.
Over to Google Gemini.
It went down the todoist route too but did say “While direct Apple Calendar integration isn’t available, you could potentially subscribe to your Apple Calendar within Google Calendar and then connect Google Calendar to Todoist as a workaround.” This was some good information for me, something that I’m struggling with.
It gave me suggestions on workarounds but they seemed too overcomplicated and didn’t give me what I wanted so I asked about apps that weren’t todoist. It gave me a good list of apps with their pros and cons, then summarised it for me in a table.
I was pretty impressed with this. The only bit wrong that I spotted was I knew ticktick supported direct Apple Calendar access, it then came back with “You are absolutely right! My information was outdated. TickTick does support direct integration with Apple Calendar.“
Again, pretty impressed.
Sounds like I’m off into testing ticktick, but the free version as I am in a position of having to cut back on my monthly outgoings.
I might switch over to Google Gemini for some testing.
