Not every part of the land has been taken over by #agriculture and there remain a few areas of unmanaged scrub and bushes.

The land is extensively used for agriculture and in this part of #Exmoor, #SheepFarming seem to be the main #industry and so large #fields and #meadows of #pasture are needed to feed them. In #Spring, the grass is a beautiful shade of #green.

Many fields are not fenced and #FarmAnimals can walk freely onto the road. In order to confine them, #CattleGrids are used.

By the road, I encountered these #geese. In the #photograph, they appear merely curious about the stranger with a camera but in reality, they were honking and hissing very loudly and being very aggressive. I’m really glad there was a barrier between us as I’m sure they would have attacked without it.

After a while and some further climbing, we past the wooded area and emerged into a meadow. Unlike #Dartmoor, which is home to both #cattle and #sheep, there only seem to be #sheep being reared in #Exmoor. Here, we see a group of #lambs feeding in the field, along with some adult sheep.

I find #trees to be particularly beautiful in #spring as they are not bear but neither are they covered in #foliage. The #buds give extra definition to the same of the branches. I will post about #TreesInExmoor separately.

The #Sun was now starting to shine over the #valley crest.

The path was about half way up the #valley side and it was clear with the occasionally blocked by fallen #trunks.

The trickiest thing about going to a place you’ve never been before is to orientate oneself and work out where to begin. Here, a little help from #GPS and #OnlineMaps did come in handy but after that, it was back to analogue hardware – a #map and a #compass.

Starting on the road by around 9 am, there was a #footpath that led up the side of the valley into a #wood. In the #MorningLight, the #trees were illuminated by nicely.
