Finally, this is a #ToucanCrossing [Two can cross] for use by both #pedestrians and #cyclists. Fun trivia fact: if you take the path to right, you will get to the #UKMetOffice in a couple of minutes.

This is good #HighwayEngineering – cyclists have their own dedicated #TrafficLights, so that they can cross five lanes of traffic in safety.

#CycleRotues are generally quite well #signposted.

The safest way to cross a busy four-lane dual carriageway is to use a cycle and food #bridge.

A level shared section, again with the main road well separated from non-motor vehicle users.

Another uphill section and so it’s a good idea not only to separate the motor traffic from #cyclists but also #pedestrians. Cycles often bomb down here at high speeds and so that’s another good reason to have separate zones for #walkers.

This old #MasonryArtch #bridge was especially widened by having a #SharedPath attached to it so that there’s a wall between busy motor traffic lanes and #cyclists and #pedestrians. I believe this work won an award for #CyclingInfrastructure.

Later, the two #paths merge onto a shared section once more but it’s well away from an parallel road.

Further along, there is a completely motor traffic free section where the foot and #cyclepaths run along side each other for nearly 1 km. There’s plenty of room for all here.

In another part, #cycle and #footpaths are clearly segregated and here they’re coloured distinctively. This is a good design and one often passes jammed road traffic at the busy junction ahead.

This part is sloped upwards meaning that #cyclists are usually slower and, if nothing else, would hinder #MotorTraffic, possibly causing frustration and the urge to overtake #bikers dangerously. The solution here is to allow #cycles and pedestrians on this path. The #BusLane is only active on weekday mornings.
