Tilo Schumann<p><a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/GrandCentral" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GrandCentral</span></a> nochmal am Abend. <br />Und dann ist es wie in Deutschland: spätabends keine <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/LIRR" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>LIRR</span></a> mehr von Grand Central wegen Weichenarbeiten. Also mit dem Subway-Shuttle nach Penn Station fahren und von dort fahren. Der Shuttle ist aufgrund der Kürze der Strecke auf Stehen ausgelegt.</p>
Tilo Schumann<p>Am nächsten Tag geht es zur Abwechslung nach dem Strand in die Berge. Erst mit der <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/LIRR" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>LIRR</span></a> ins neue <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/GrandCentral" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>GrandCentral</span></a> Terminal. Eine Hochglanzstation tief unter der Erde mit 8 Gleisen neben und übereinander. Ganz frisch erst im Jahr 2023 fertiggestellt, ermöglicht sie es, von Long Island mit einem Umstieg ins Hudson Valley zu kommen. Die Baukosten waren auch nicht ohne: 11 Mrd. US-$ inkl. Zufahrtsstrecke.</p>
Tilo Schumann<p>Der Vollständigkeit halber muss man erwähnen, dass der Bustrip nicht ohne Verspätungen ablief. Auf der Hinfahrt hatte die <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/LIRR" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>LIRR</span></a> 8 min Verspätung, weswegen der Bus ohne uns abfuhr - eine Stunde warten. Und bei der Rückfahrt mit dem letzten Bus des Tages kam dieser erst 15 min später. Beruhigend wirkten aber die 3 anderen wartenden Fahrgäste. Ursache: Die Klappbrücke war geöffnet. Der Busfahrer entschuldigte sich dafür.</p>
Tilo Schumann<p>In Babylon wartet der Anschlusszug der <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/LIRR" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>LIRR</span></a> nach Montauk. Mit Diesellok und Doppelstockwagen. Aber leider ist der Fahrplan so dünn, dass die Hin- und Rückfahrt mit Familie werktags keine Option ist. Also mit der S47 (Suffolk County Bus) übers Wasser an den Strand von Fire Island fahren und den Atlantik auf sich einwirken lassen.</p>
Tilo Schumann<p>Fahrgastinfo bei der <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/LIRR" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>LIRR</span></a>, praktisch ist die Anzeige der Sitzplatzverfügbarkeit, mehr als ein bisschen gelb habe ich aber nicht gesehen, vielleicht wegen der Ferienzeit, was ich gar nicht gefunden habe: Abfahrtspläne auf Papier. Es ist unklar, warum die PDFs aus dem Internet nicht einfach ausgehängt werden.</p>
Tilo Schumann<p>Die Umgebung der Stationen der <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/LIRR" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>LIRR</span></a> ist eine autofreundliche Umgebung. Parkplätze zu allen Seiten. Aber Zentren von Kleinstädten sehen in den USA ja ohnehin so aus. Dass die Kleinstadtatmosphäre schon so nah an New York City beginnt, überrascht etwas. Immerhin kann man zu Fuß wichtige Ziele erreichen, wie z.B. auch ein Hotel. <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/RockvilleCentre" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>RockvilleCentre</span></a></p>
Tilo Schumann<p>Eine Besonderheit der <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/BabylonBranch" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>BabylonBranch</span></a> der <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/LIRR" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>LIRR</span></a> ist die aufgeständerte Führung durch die Ortszentren. Es gibt keine Bahnübergänge mehr und die Atmosphäre gleicht einer modernen Schnellbahn. Laut Wikipedia fand die Hochlegung von 1950-80 statt. Dafür sieht der Beton noch relativ gut aus.</p>
Tilo Schumann<p>Aber um Mal bei den Eigenheiten der <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/LIRR" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>LIRR</span></a> das Positive hervorzuheben: mit dem Express-System kommen die meisten wohl schneller voran. Auf der <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/BabylonBranch" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>BabylonBranch</span></a> fahren die Locals auf zweigleisiger Strecke voraus. Überholungen sind also nicht möglich. Der Express kommt dann von hinten. Weil die Fahrt auf das Kehrgleis ein bisschen länger gedauert hat, schiebt der Express den Local quasi raus in <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/Massapequa" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Massapequa</span></a> Herrlich anzusehen.😁</p>
Tilo Schumann<p>Die Tickets werden nach der Kontrolle vom Schaffner in den Sitz gesteckt. Bei eTicket oder Return Tickets wird ein Extra-Zettel reingesteckt, der die vollführte Kontrolle markiert. Manchmal bekommt man das Ticket auch gleich abgenommen. Wenn man sich dann umsetzt und den Extra-Zettel nicht mitnimmt, könnte es wohl Ärger geben. <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/LIRR" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>LIRR</span></a></p>
Tilo Schumann<p>Einige Zwischenstationen der <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/LIRR" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>LIRR</span></a> haben zu kurze Bahnsteige für die 10-Wagen-Züge, die dort halten, hier z.B. Forest Hills. Die Informationen, von welchem Wagen man aussteigen kann, sind offenbar so schlecht, dass selbst Einheimische fluchend durch den Zug gehen, wenn sie es nicht schaffen, auszusteigen.</p>

Tilo Schumann<p>Der Fahrplan der <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/LIRR" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>LIRR</span></a> besteht wie in Amerika üblich aus einem komplizierten Express-System, so dass es Anzeigen für alle Zielstationen gibt, wann der nächste Zug mit Halt dort abfährt.</p>

Tilo Schumann<p>Ankunft in <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/Jamaica" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Jamaica</span></a>. Vom Airtrain hat man einen schönen Blick auf die Station der Long Island Railroad, <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/LIRR" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>LIRR</span></a>. Bevor man aus dem AirTrain rauskommt, muss man sich aber erst Mal freikaufen. Und dann gleich noch die <a href="https://troet.cafe/tags/MetroCard" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>MetroCard</span></a> dazu. 1 Woche für 33$.</p>
