C.<p>🤣 at Microsoft today...</p><p>Replacing the Blue Screen of Death with a new Black Screen of Death, which now no longer contains *any* information about the problem that caused the system to crash and need to restart.</p><p>For the average user, it's now impossible to have even a hint as to what the problem is. Great job, everybody!</p><p>For power users, geez, I hope something made it into the event logs and onto disk before the system died. No? Oh well, you didn't really need to know, just reset and wonder how long you've got until it happens again.</p><p>EDIT / UPDATE: I've now seen a second article about this change. The first didn't include an image, and described the removal of all information related to the specific error. This second one shows a copy, and it still appears to include the filename containing the code that crashed the kernel and whatever Windows calls an errno value. normen<p>Kurz vor einem Auftrag fängt mein Video-Rechner plötzlich an zu zicken.. <a href="https://norden.social/tags/BSOD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BSOD</span></a> - harter Kernel-Absturz.. So alle 3-5 Stunden. Super. So geht streamen nicht.</p><p>Habe zum ersten mal das "verifier" Tool in Windows benutzt um den Kernel-Treiber zu finden der das Problem verursacht. Nettes Tool, nur schade dass man es überhaupt braucht 🫤</p><p>Stellt sich raus eine PCI-USB-Karte hat entweder ein Problem oder teilt sich aus irgend einem Grund die Ressourcen nicht mehr ordentlich. Naja, raus damit. Läuft 🙂</p>

Ich hatte tatsächlich das letzte Mal einen mit Windows 7. Das ist SEHR lange her. Linux nutze ich parallel erst seit Ende 2023, davor war ich Windows Poweruser. Linux ist mir in der Zeit definitiv häufiger (ungeplant) abgestürzt als Windows in den letzten 15 Jahren.</p><p>Ich weiß, ein herrliches Triggerthema. 🍿</p>

This was well after XP had stopped getting security patches.</p><p>Probably did 'em a favor by crashing.
