To the Linux users in the Fediverse:
Which camera manufacturer do you have the best experience with in terms of Linux compatibility?
¿Con qué fabricante de cámaras tienes la mejor experiencia en cuanto a compatibilidad con Linux?
Avec quel fabricant d'appareils photo avez-vous eu la meilleure expérience en ce qui concerne la compatibilité Linux?
@vivaristic
Canon because of CHDK.
As a Linux user I'm used to getting more from my hardware, be it a computer or a camera.
@vivaristic None. They all make things more difficult than they need to be.
@vivaristic
Generally most cameras except the most recent are well supported, and support for those usually comes along pretty soon, unless they've messed around with radically different file formats.
The only camera I've had consistent trouble with is a Sigma camera with the foveon sensor. I've used Fuji, Nikon, Olympus, and Pentax with no trouble at all. Thankfully, the old version of Sigma's software works with WINE, so I was able to edit the images in the end.
@vivaristic
And I guess by well supported I mean hordes of developers work to reverse engineer them so they work as they should lol.
