#bigtech was undemocratic from the start, their leaders building in the ability to stay in power for ever:
"... the arrangement that Mark Zuckerberg has with Facebook. Despite only holding a small percentage of the company’s equity (around 13%), he holds the majority of voting shares, as well as the role of chairman of Facebook’s board, ensuring his position as CEO can never be challenged, regardless of any pressure from shareholders."

@patrickleavy Some years ago we could read a lot about Zuckerberg and what kind of person he is.
So, many people left FB ... but still using #Instagram, #WhatsApp and #Meta.
And I don't understand why so many people or institutions are still using X.

@salome true it's hard to understand how people don't immediately boycott. But i think it's mostly the network effect. We'd all need to coordinate it to leave at once.
E.g. even Carole Cadwalladr, who obviously fucking hates Musk, stays on X because "that's where the audience is".
She's also on Bluesky, which is a step in the right direction.
@patrickleavy You're right.
Musk and Zuckerberg know that it works like this and that people will go on paying them.
