This is a really beautiful piece of writing by a pre-Nov22 user and admin on what was lost because of the influx of people like me. Every refugee should read it. Getting out of Twitter is easy. Getting Twitter out of you and your behaviour is the real challenge that lies ahead of us. Let's give it our best shot. We owe it to the wonderful environment that has welcomed us here. hughrundle.net/home-invasion/

www.hughrundle.net · Home invasion - Mastodon's Eternal September beginsThe fediverse is dealing with a huge wave of Twitter people bringing toxic ideas with them.

@joostbaars I read the blog by Hugh Rundle and I sympathise with him and the traditional mastodon community that indeed must feel overwhelmed. However, one should realise that the majority of twitter leavers joins mastodon *because* they are fed up with the way twitter stimulates rudeness. Most will adjust to the delicate rules of mastodon in time.
Speaking for myself I've been using twitter as if it were mastodon all along. I would have joined m before if I knew it existed.

@joopdelfijn It's different for all of us. I'm a bit like you, but also certainly capable of the other side. And we may display behaviors associated with the Dead Bird Site without us knowing it, because we think they're 'normal', because of our conditioning on it. It's important, I think, to educate ourselves even if we think we are already educated enough. And to be open to be educated by others. Peace.

@joostbaars Thanks for your response. Yes, I am ready to learn from the mastodon community, because I realise I have entered a new world, created with a purpose by many volunteers before me, and to which I was welcomed so gracefully. I hope most newbies will learn as well, though inevitably the platform will change. If only by the large number of newcomers.
